Local Attractions
Hill'N Vale is located in an area of the Mount Washington Valley known as "The Intervale" This area is well known for its scenic vista looking up the Saco River Valley to Mount Washington. Across the river to the West is one of the most prominent features of the North Conway Area, Cathedral and White Horse Ledge. Artists, photographers, and tourists have been capturing this view since people started visiting the area for recreation in the mid-1800s. Hill'N Vale has nearly the same vantage point of the Ledges from the back patio and Mount Washington can be seen above the tree line from the Master Bedroom balcony.
While the Intervale area does not have the bustling boutiques and shop fronts of North Conway Village just two miles to the South, there are several convenient shops that can save a trip to town. Vista Country Store is a convenience store located on the corner of Hurricane Mountain Road. They carry small grocery items that you may not want to travel to the main grocery stores to get such as milk, bread, beer, wine, condiments and snacks. An ATM is located in the store.
Aubuchon Hardware on Route 16 just above the hill from Hill'N Vale has charcoal briquets and lighter fluid for your barbeque. They also have batteries, flashlights, seasonal recreational toys, camping and hiking equipment as well as any other piece of hardware you might require.
Next to Aubuchon is Red Jersey Cyclery with both new bike sales and repair. If you are into cycling at all this is probably the place to be. They also have a cafe on site that serves coffee and smoothies.
Further South on Route 16 across from the scenic overlook is a small set of store fronts which includes Subways, Vista Scoop Shoppe and Cannell's Country Store. Cannell's is an old style souvenir shop with everything from penny candy to fishing bait. They also have an assortment of oddities for sale in the back of the store including some infamous velvet paintings.
Vista Scoops is a small ice cream shop that also sells coffee and hand packed pints. A favorite past time for after dinner is to walk up to the shop after dinner where you can sit on the porch and enjoy the sunset over the Vista while enjoying your cone.
Subways is a convenient place to grab sandwiches for a picnic or a quick dinner. There is an ATM located in the store. The Intervale Post Office is around the corner from the Vista shops on Intervale Cross Road.
Of course the most significant feature of the Intervale area is the view from the Scenic Overlook. The tourist information center and viewing deck is currently under construction and is scheduled for re-opening in late summer 2007.
